Would you care for a dance Before the end of the world Would you take that chance with me We could sway back and forth To our own steady beat Make it whatever you want it to be (Chorus) Maybe it doesn't suit you Maybe it just won't work Maybe if we jump ship now We can still make it to the shore Has anyone ever told That you're unsuitable Not made for these times Has anyone ever shown you It's inhospitable When you start making that climb I'm not sure they ever thought you'd go I don't think they wanted you to know (Chorus repeat until end)
3.
Load up the hold We're setting out today One hundred strong Let's keep it that way Do well to pray That we might safely reach the bay Spend nights looking at the stars May this vessel take us far Load up the wagons We're setting out today Got no time to argue The trail calls for haste With sails on a bright green sea Where no man has been before Out where it's empty and stark May this vessel take us far Load up the cargo The people have boarded Soon we take to the skies In routes humans have plotted With great metal wings It's hard to tell 'em apart The nervous ones are thinking May this vessel take us far Load up the shuttle The launch is today They'll leave this planet behind Yeah they're on their way To the place we see every night With infinite lights, shining bright Spend nights in the stars May this vessel take us far

Got me in knots I'm tied up again, where do I even begin You got me in knots I'm tied up again, where do I even begin I'll half-hitch down the road Meet you at the bowline Past the old sheep bend It's like I'm seeing it all for the first time Keep it overhand I won't slip, cut the quips Scratch that taught-line hitch And get lost in a field of clove hitch Got me in knots I'm tied up again, where do I even begin You got me in knots I'm tied up again, where do I even begin You've got me in knots When you've got me in knots

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore— While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. “’Tis some visitor, tapping at my chamber door— Only this and nothing more.” Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter, In there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore; “Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou art sure no craven, Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore— Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!” Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.” Nevermore, Nothing more Always Nevermore Nevermore, Nothing more Quoth the Raven, Nevermore “Prophet! thing of evil!—prophet still, if bird or devil! By that Heaven that bends above us—by that God we both adore— Tell this soul with sorrow laden, if within the distant Aidenn, It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore— Clasp a radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore.” Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.” “Be that word our sign of parting, bird or fiend!” I shrieked, upstarting— “Get thee back into the tempest and the Night’s Plutonian shore! Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken! Leave my loneliness unbroken!—quit the bust above my door! Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!” Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.” And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door; And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming, And the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor; And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Shall be lifted—nevermore! Nevermore, Nothing more Always Nevermore Nevermore, Nothing more Quoth the Raven, Nevermore

Oh can you feel it in the air Halloween spirit everywhere Golden broken leaves drift down Making a crisp crackle sound Pumpkins dot the corner plots Some are spooky some are not At night chills shoot down my spine It's just the season I know I'm fine Oh it's getting cooler in the streets We've left behind the August heat It draws the undead from their graves Stuck in place they smile and wave Witch cackles break through the sky They want candy, so do I To build a stash of sweet and sour We have at most a few hours Yeah we got a few hours So many costumes what a sight, All building up to this night! One by one the lights turn off And doorbell rings begin to stop The ancient mummy is unwrapped His killing friend loses the mask The vampire pulls out his fangs While others wrestle with the pangs Of stomach aches and stomach cramps Worth pounding all the sweets they can

It’s 12 AM And hot as hell It’s dying down Haven’t heard the bell In a while I’m all alone Just the spinning fan And it’s steady drone Sweep the floor Restock the shelves Chew some gum I might as well A man comes in and Buys some snacks Then he’s on his way I hardly even interact That’s not what they want from me But it’s what I’d like from them In this convenience store You get what you pay for In this convenience store You get what you pay for In this convenience store Gonna get what I paid for In this convenience store Gonna get what I paid for

(Chorus) How can it be Both sour and sweet? One or the other Expect to devour Make no mistake We've been here before Crossed between tides Spun out on the shore You lift your head Up from the sand Can't tell where we are And you throw up your hands You've got to escape Need to change the scene And go back, back to sleep Run away in your dreams It wouldn't be the first time You stepped in shattered glass Melted pools of asphalt Flooded dead grass (Chorus) Expect to devour Expect to be devoured I feel it coming, on the breeze Something sinister, dark and diseased Oh it's coming, I don't know when Yes it's coming, best prepare yourself my friend
12.
As the expression goes Rock and hard place woes Just like they say Ask and it can be arranged (Chorus) You’ve got me caught Trapped and stuck Ready for round two? I'm ready for round two It never ends Beaten again and again Pummeled into the ground Senses gone, I am unwound (Chorus) I need a breather I need a breather Can’t catch my breath Left runnin’ to the bitter end The bitter end of an ugly race No winner, no second place Just dead last on the podium Hallelujah, damn it all (Chorus x2)
13.
Roof 02:28
All I came to believe in Ends right here With a roof over my head Redirecting near It's a new chance To say how you feel Won't you come on in And make it all real (Chorus) And this time they came back As angels without wings Monstrous pearly hues dulled Cut all their harp strings Well cut your ties With the oldest court That built all the roofs They'll build 'em no more (Chorus x2)
14.
(Chorus) Burrowed in like a tick Bleed me out from the inside Wading tall grass Search for an out It cuts my legs Red river spout Blood pours hot Blood pours fast It doesn’t have to But it needs to Craving the dark, you Let it get through (Chorus) Pull it away Flush it away Burn it away It’ll find a way (x4) (Chorus) Burrowed in like a tick Won’t you bleed me out from the inside Bleed me out from the inside Bleed me out
15.
As I sit quietly on this bench Watching people ducking in And out of buildings to stay dry All their umbrellas opened wide Don’t they know there is no need I know this so I pay no heed They’ve lived entire lives inside Helmets, now hair’s hard to find As I sit quietly on this bench Watching people blinking at The blinding sun unhidden by Dissolved clouds opened wide Don’t they know there is no need I know this so I pay no heed They’ve lived entire lives inside Helmets, now hair’s hard to find
16.
Compass 02:17
(Chorus) Keep your needle straight Master your own fate Keep your compass tuned So it knows how best to help you (Chorus x2)
17.
Imminent collapsing not-so-distant sun Half of this planet’s on the run You know I hate to spoil the fun But I think we’re gonna have to take a rain check on this one (Chorus) You can call me that, it’s fine Just don’t ever ask for the time I’ve been rocket lagged a hundred days Yeah you can call me Ray People pack the terminals as it goes down Everybody’s trying to get out of town Lucky for you I was around Now let’s jump port ‘cause my passport says I’m space bound (Chorus) Please, call me ray
18.
Moon (Hues) 04:26
All these hues I’ve a perfect view Anywhere I go A flower in full bloom Here inside my room It can never be too soon (Chorus) Name it what you may They are all the same Watch it wax and wane Captured in my windowpane I lie awake My thoughts all race About the past I can’t quite shake When we go it stays And it’s never been late (Chorus) On a crystal clear night When the stars shine at such heights Heights I’ll never know On such a foggy day Sweep me up and off to the bay A bay we all see Isn’t that what makes us human What lives have lived and proven To bathe in that light To share in a moonlit sky I dreamt of a round pale kite To lift me up to the cat’s eye

You got me the first time Won’t let you get me again If you get me a second time I guess we’ll wait and see then Meet me out where the mountain ends I said I’ll meet you where the forest meets trouble We’ll catch snow on our tongues and fall, into Debris from frozen ice castle rubble Meet me in where the yeti dwells I said I’ll meet you in the cave he calls home We’ll kick our feet up by the fireside Watch signals dancin’ out the radio Technicolor wonder thunder Passing by it’s a blur Technicolor wonder thunder Ooh, a bad idea for sure The forest’s edge is open range Electric air got me feelin’ deranged Now I’m lookin’ for place to find refuge Power lines everywhere actin’ strange since I met you Technicolor wonder thunder Passing by it’s a blur Technicolor wonder thunder Ooh, a bad idea for sure

It’s a long way to travel Without a map It’s a hard rain a fallin’ Just over the dash Turn left the dial Get nothing back Out on the open road Songs turn abstract Still a long way to travel I need a nap Out on the open road Time feels flat The radio, won’t play Got static all day
23.
Leak 01:26
Read an article, ‘bout a guy I know Lived in a metaphor He called in a favor, from an old friend They go way back But the guy no-showed, left to sink or float Nearly drowned So he brought in a pro, wise and old To do it right Looked it over twice, nodding his head That’s when he said You sprung a leak and it got away You sprung a leak and it got away You sprung a leak and it got away
24.
(Chorus) Sing me a song, from an era past Gentle and kind, it could never last Leading the sales, the music with class In an alley of tin pans, where hits were amassed Everyday Johnny would be home by two And pull out sheet music with his favorite tunes Hundreds of thousands they all did the same Back when the style enjoyed its heyday (Chorus x2) In an alley of tin pans, where hits were amassed In an alley of tin pans, where hits were amassed
25.
Splat 00:58
You've got the wrong idea So let me make it clear Splat Splat Splat

de Luis Moscoso Was a friend of mine; With Hernando de Soto When I watched the latter die; On the banks of Arkansas Before a native tribe; The son of the sun Sank into the night. There is a city In the other ‘sas; Named after that good friend But they forgot; That a single letter Throws the whole thing off; It’s owned by the Kremlin Or that’s what they thought. Because of a typo! (Repeat)
27.
Spark 01:47
Once again I’m in the woods Deeper than I’ve been before Trees blanket the sky like clouds Nightfall will blind us I’m sure Gather wood and strike that flint (Gotta get that fire burning) Gather wood and strike that flint (Gotta get that fire burning) Gather wood and strike that flint (Gotta get that fire burning) Gather wood and strike that flint (Gotta get that fire burning) I could really use a spark I could really use a spark Hours passed I’m losing heart I could really use a spark

Haven’t you heard On one special day a year He makes just one stop And I’m certain that it’ll be here While others dress up For a night of tricks or treats I’ll get to meet him Just you all wait and see I’ve picked out the sincerest patch In this town of mine Yeah I’ve picked out the sincerest patch Now it's only a matter of time I’ve picked out the sincerest patch In this town of mine Yeah I’ve picked out the sincerest patch Now it's only a matter of For I’ve picked out the sincerest patch In this town of mine Yeah I’ve picked out the sincerest patch Now it's only a matter of time Now it’s only a matter of time Now it’s only a matter of time Now it’s only a matter of time

Deep in a submerged crystal cave He wears his airtight suit The vessel descends tying his stomach in knots God he doesn’t know what to do A store clerk stares off into the distance A raven passes by in the night Spirits are low, the fan’s humming goes On and off, as she watches the time The pressure mounts as wax melts down The children all quickly trick or treat For candy that is so sour and sweet Or the sticky kind that gets stuck in your teeth Under one roof the scientist toils Trying to figure out how it ticks The electronic brains in a helmet of steel Whir to life, that compass did the trick And on a planet we can’t comprehend Two moons are soon to collide And one unlucky kid kept out of the loop Boards a freshly sprouted rocket to survive A fuzzy beast opens it’s maw As the truck driver inspects a leak He looks up and swerves narrowly avoiding A crash to render species extinct Windshield wipers clear away the splat Of the bug that connected them all Stories of sparks from crisp evil robots Patched together this slithering story’s vast sprawl Take a risk Cause even if you miss You’ll come out the other side Feeling a little more alive Take a risk Cause even if you miss You’ll come out the other side Feeling a little more alive

about

You may have heard of Inktober, where a one-word prompt is assigned to each day in the month of October for artists to use as the basis for a new ink work every day. I've decided it would be fun to take this concept and, with the same prompts, apply it to music. So here we are, dubbed Songtober (not very original, I know), I am creating and recording a new song from scratch every day in October 2021, adhering to the official prompt list given out for Inktober.

The naming convention for the songs is "Prompt (Song title)", so you can see the prompt for that song, and where it ended up with the title (not all songs have a title, some are just the prompt). The songs are uploaded in order here, so the 1st song was October 1st and the final song was done on October 31st. Pretty straightforward.

As a note, on Day 25 my laptop (which all my music is made on) started to go sour, so from that day on all the songs were recorded on my phone. If you notice the change in direction/sound from that day on, this is why. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed this project overall and I'm already looking forward to Ink/Songtober next year.

Thanks to Heidi for the artwork, which she did as a part of Inktober (this specific inking is from Day 1, the "Crystal" prompt).

Most of the "lyrics" in Raven are taken from Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven", which is public domain, but still worth mentioning.

All other music was written/recorded/produced/etc. entirely by me.
